Please find below the absic difference between government version of lokpal and jan lopal proposed by civil society
· Govt lokpal suggests that a complaint has to be routed thru parlmnt(spkr or chairman)
o Janlokpal wants it to be open. Complaint should be dealt by lokpal directly
· Lokpal has no prosecution powers
o Janlokpal will have prosecution powers
· Lokpal can’t register FIR
o Janlokpal can
· Lokpal covers only MPs, ministers and PMs
o Janlokpal covers judiciary, bureaucrats and politicians
· Lokpal has to probe within 6mnth to 1 year but no fixed time for completion of trial
o Janlokpal has 1 year to probe and 1 year for trial. Ie in 2 years we get to know if person is guilty or not
· Lokpal will have 3 retd judges selected by PM+VP+leaders of both houses+leader of opposition in both houses+law minister+home minister
o Janlokpal will have 10 members and 1 chairman. Atleast 4 need to have legal background(not necessarily judges)
o Will be selected by CEC,CAG,bharat ratnas in a transparent manner
· Lokpal can’t take any action against a corrupt person
o Janlokpal has powers to recover losses to government from corrupt person
